May Project Update
The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) Division of Aeronautics initiated a comprehensive State Airport System Plan (SASP) on February 15, 2008. Since that time, significant progress has been made toward the first five tasks of the project. These tasks include:
| Task 1 | Scoping |
| Task 2 | Establish Project Advisory Committee (PAC) |
| Task 3 | Establish System Goals & Performance Measures |
| Task 4 | Identify State, Regional, and Local Airport Issues |
| Task 5 | Conduct Inventory |
The first meeting of the PAC was held on May 1, 2008. Eighteen persons representing a cross-section of Idaho’s airports, state transportation modes, and economic development entities attended the meeting and provided ITD and the Consultant Team with important input into the study. During this meeting, information on the study’s goals and performance measures were presented and reviewed. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation is included on the study’s website.
The exploration and identification of aviation issues in Idaho is an important task in the evaluation of the State’s aviation infrastructure needs. Task 4 will identify state, regional, and local airport issues that have the potential to impact the Idaho aviation system. The issues identified will then feed into the inventory process where additional information will be gathered from individual airports.
To identify the aviation/airport assets, an extensive on-site meeting process is being planned. Existing information on the state’s airports is being compiled into an inventory survey form that will be reviewed with each airport as part of an on-site meeting. Scheduling for the on-site visits is underway, with the anticipated kick-off of the visits scheduled for mid June and concluding in July. This comprehensive inventory effort will provide the necessary data for the analysis of the study’s goals and performance measures. All data gathered will provide ITD with a wealth of information on its airport facilities, activities, and services.
