GSATS, the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Grand Strand area, is required to update its 25-year Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) every five years. This study updates the 2030 LRTP prepared in 2005. Federal regulations require that projects be included in an approved LRTP in order to be eligible for Federal funding programs.
The Plan is multi-modal covering transit, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, as well as roadways. It will draw upon previous studies, input from local citizens and traffic projections to 2035 to identify needed transportation improvements. Candidate projects will be ranked to provide a financially constrained plan based on projected cost estimates and projected traditional funding sources. Other projects may be included in the plan for potential funding by non-traditional sources.
The GSATS study area is shown below, together with the municipalities that it includes. For additional information about GSATS and its mission please visit their website at wrcog.org/gsats/index.htm
